Willard Rouse Jillson, geologist, was born in Syracuse, New York, May 28, 1890. He moved to Kentucky in 1917 and served as the state geologist from 1919-1932. Known as a prolific writer, he wrote on such subjects as paleontology, mining, regional history, biography, and history of Kentucky literature. Simon Bolivar Buckner, governor of Kentucky during 1887-91, was born near Munfordville, Kentucky, in 1823, to Aytell Hartswell and Elizabeth Ann Buckner.
